What am I doing?

Sign that reads "Travel is good for the soul"

“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.”

Anthony Bourdain, No Reservations: Around the World on an Empty Stomach

I love to travel. Like I really love to travel. I would like to visit every country on Earth, if I have the chance. So I need something to help me decide where to go and since I’ve been so inspired by Anthony’s works, I thought– what would Tony find now? How would the people and places that many of us were introduced to through Tony’s work be different? What has changed for the better and what… not so much.

I think that Tony would be very upset and outspoken at what we’re seeing in America today. Since Tony is no longer with us, we must carry on the spirit he’s inspired in so many and characterized himself– curiosity, cultural humility, respect for others, and a determination to show that underneath it all, humanity has more in common than our differences.
